Anjali Khakharia is a Senior Biostatistician at Emory School of Medicine, managing the data analyst team within the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology. She holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from Pt. JNM Medical College in India and a master’s in information systems and bioinformatics from a joint program at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).

 

Anjali worked at VA Hospital in New Jersey and UMDNJ for 7 years before joining Emory in Atlanta. Her research interests focus on improving diabetes care and management, long-term complications of diabetes, risk factor identification, and managing chronic kidney disease. She is also interested in health services research related to vascular interventions for cardiovascular diseases. Anjali is affiliated with VA Atlanta for her research on diabetes and related outcomes.

 

As a data analyst and biostatistician, Anjali collaborates with researchers to provide data and statistical support. She works on health services research (HSR) in Emory’s Surgical and Quality Outcomes Research group and the HSR group at the Atlanta VAMC. Anjali is involved in the American Heart Association (AHA) grant studying cardiovascular outcomes and limb loss risk prediction in Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) patients, as well as the NIH/NIA GEMSSTAR grant on the impact of frailty on the quality of surgical care in PAD and aortic aneurysm patients. She focuses on PAD patients, who are significantly affected by depression, a consistent risk factor for mortality in this population.

 

Anjali has expertise in using national VHA data (VINCI and MedSAS) for PAD, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, amputations, and depression, as well as in assessing risk factors and outcomes from various data sources like Medicare and Medicaid.
